NWD8 – SMACK DOWN WWF move over, here comes NWD – Smack Down, the latest bikeumentary from Freeride Entertainment. If you haven’t guessed from the title this installment has a wrestling theme, with Lunch box Larry MCing a death match between the riders and the Destroyer. Just when you're thinking it can’t get any cheesier, you're saved by the pumpin' 1st segment with Andreu Lacondeguy throwing down an awesome display of talent, Back flip superman, flatspins, 360’s and every flip combo you can think of. Wayne Goss is up next with some good urban riding and a hand plant off the back of a camel in Israel. Then Febien Barel takes over and picks up the pace doing what he does best - drifting corners at warp speed and letting it all hang out. This section and the one with Cedric Gracia carving it up though the trees are real stand outs showing off some great camera work, from long wire-cams to super crisp close ups. Both segments capture the speed and skill these riders have. Cam McCaul’s section also shows off some new style with the camera seeming to float high above a set of twin jumps like a satellite. You then get an exclusive look at what it takes to compete at the main Freeride events of the year with coverage from Crankworx, Qashqai and the Bearclaw Invitational. The most outstanding segment for me in NWD8 was the section with Kirt Voreis. He opens it up with a huge roof gap drop, curved urban wall ride, mini indoor skate park and bombing single track. From this point in the movie it seems to run out of steam and new ideas going back to the old tried and tested. Robbie Bourdon trying a huge 360 flat spin but not landing it (maybe in nwd9). Wade Simmons riding some nice wood trails and Kyle Strait spraying some dirt at the camera coming out of a corner (what’s with that? I don’t get it). Don’t get me wrong, NWD8 is a great MTB film and more importantly it showcases what is happening in Freeride Mtb at this moment in time. Would I watch it again I hear you ask? For sure, get down your LBS and get a copy and make sure you watch the bonus dvd, "HAVE YOU SEEN IT?" This short film is a good laugh. 7.9/10 See the teaser Now . | ||
