General Riding Techniques

Here are some core riding skills that every rider should know:

  • LOOK AHEAD - don't get caught staring at the ground in front of your tyre. Try to look ahead while you are riding as doing so will help you anticiate the obstacles that are approaching

  • LOOK WHERE YOU WANT TO GO - not at the trees, rocks or edge of track. Looking at that thing that you do not want to hit is called target acquisition.

  • RELAX YOUR GRIP & STAY LOOSE - You should be able to wiggle your fingers. Your arms and shoulders should be relaxed, and not hunched over. The loser and more relaxed you can keep your body, the better you will be able to react with body positioning to differet things your bike won't do.

  • MOMENTUM IS YOUR FRIEND - Momentum can get you over obstacles, up and over rocks, and around corners better than going slow and braking for everything.
