Santa Cruz Syndicate’s Greg Minnaar (SRAM/RockShox) places 2nd overall in the UCI World Cup Series with a 2nd place race finish today as he and Gee Atherton took their tightly fought season to the finale with Gee emerging victorious on the day in a nail biter all the way down to the finish line.

The final race at the Kokanee Crankworx in Whistler saw Trek World Racing take 2 top fives in the Pro Men's Canadian Open Downhill yesterday, with Justin Leov (NZL) securing 3rd place on the podium and teammate, Andrew Neethling (RSA), just tenths behind in 5th.

The action was fast and furious on the Double Vision course at the Giant Slalom, presented by Giant Bicycles, with Michal Prokop (CZE) whipping into first place for the Pro Men and Emmeline Ragot (FRA) adding more hardware to her pile with another first place win in the Pro Women’s category.

Chris Kovarik (AUS) maintained a blistering pace in today’s Monster Energy Garbanzo DH to take home first with a time of 13:22.99, knocking last year’s winner Justin Leov (NZL) into second place with a time of 13:29.85. Dry course conditions for the first time in the event’s history allowed Kovarik to shave off over 22 seconds from Leov’s 2009 winning time.

Kokanee Crankworx 2010 is officially on with the Dual Slalom in the bag and the Block Party kicking off with the first bash of this nine-day celebration of all things mountain bike. With big-time contender Brian Lopes out in the first heat of the Pro Men semi-finals due to a crash, Gee Atherton managed to fend off up and coming young guns Troy Brosnan and Mitch Ropelato to secure the Dual Slalom win.

Connecting to all of the action at Kokanee Crankworx is best done in person. However, from August 7-15 technology will close the gap for those not making the pilgrimage to Whistler, the undisputed Mecca of freeride mountain biking.

The UCI Downhill World Cup Series is becoming a nail biter as Santa Cruz Syndicate’s Greg Minnaar (SRAM RockShox), takes 2nd place today in Val Di Sole, Italy in the fifth of the six race series. Gee Atherton takes the series lead with a 3rd place finish, just 7 points ahead of Greg with one race left.
